There's a merry old inn Beneath an old gray hillThe rest begin singing: And there they brew a beer so brown The Man in the Moon Himself came down One night To drink his fill - Oh - The ostler has a tipsy cat That played a five-stringed fiddle And up and down he saws his bow Now squeaking high Now purring low Now sawing in the middle - So - The cat on the fiddle Played hey-diddle-diddle A drink that'll wake the dead He squeaked and he sawed And he quickened The tune And the landlord Shook the Man In the Moon 'it's after Three!' he said.

PJ: Because England and New Zealand are playing a very intense game of cricket at the moment and just for the fans in England we thought you might like to look at the back of paper, yesterdays paper, never mind, never mind lets ah move on
PJ: When Tolkien wrote The Hobbit in 1937, he created the character Thranduil who is now being played by Lee Pace and some ten or fifteen years later, as he was writing the Lord of the rings, he wanted an elvish character to be part of the fellowship so he created Legolas, so when we visit the Woodland realm in the Hobbit it just seemed like a great opportunity for us to actually have Legolas there, he is Thranduil son and it just seemed natural, it also gives us a ability too, expand the story line for the Wood Elves something we where very interested in doing, we also go into the world of men, as well to Laketown and we .. The Master played by Stephen Fry.
PJ: Yeah we had to leave Nelson, which is actually a location that appears in the Desolation of Smaug, um where the dwarves are going down a river in barrels and we the police turn up on set telling us there was a flood warning there was a torrential storm about to hit us so we literally had to get everything out of there about two days ahead than we plan to, so those things are stressful but, you know, what I do in the morning is I show up I look at the script you know at I have to film that day, I rehearse with the cast first thing we do on a day shooting and then you literally plan out how many shots you can do that day, you know it depends on how difficult the shots are and how difficult the scene is it can vary, the number of camera angle shots, you can get in a particular day um, some days its as little as six or seven other days it could twelve or fourteen, and so you kind of know and you sit there and you plan it and actually you plow your way through the day to try to get to the end of it. but yup it is, one of the most stressful things about film making
Jed: Indeed, we do have another twitter question now, and the question is will the Necromancer play a larger role in the plot of the Desolation of Smuag than it did in the first film?

Based on a screenplay written by himself and Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim was directed by Del Toro which was a science fiction film. The plot is about huge monsters which surface from the Pacific Ocean and create massive destruction attacking major cities and leading the people to fight back with huge mecha suits called Jaegers. Released on July 12, 2013, Pacific Rim made $411 million at the box office.
Del Toro has decorated his family house which is called Bleak House in the suburbs of Los Angeles. It is basically a macabre playhouse of a boy and filled to the brim with horror mementos and include life-size figurines of famous horror creatures like Poe, Lovecraft and of course, Frankenstein. According to Guillermo del toro, Monsters are true family to me to this day. Though born and bred in a Catholic home, he has made horror his religion and is undoubtedly, the master of horror.
The Anglo-Saxon time period in Britain was one of excitement and innovation--a time that gave birth to the English language. Beowulf, the Anglo-Saxon poem that is commonly taught in high school, achieves Old English epic greatness. Although the poem caues English teachers to seriously nerd-out, it also frequently causes students to lose consciousness. Included here are some assignments to add fun and interest to Beowulf and Anglo-Saxon culture. For a Reader's Theater script-story version of Beowulf, also visit the store.
This script-story adapts the epic poem into reading parts, helping students become engaged in the story. For the full story of Beowulf told in Reader's Theater format, visit the store by clicking HERE.
Many years ago, an old, red, leather-bound manuscript was discovered. This book was written in an ancient language and composed of several volumes; the largest, once translated into modern English by the scholar J.R.R. Tolkien, were titled ''There and Back Again'' and ''The Downfall of the Lord of the Rings.'' This manuscript is called the Red Book of Westmarch.
A novel's style is a description of how the author constructs language (word choice, sentence construction, figurative versus literal language, etc.) to create a particular tone, which is the mood or feeling you get from a particular text. In other words, the author uses a style which creates a tone; as the reader, you experience the tone.
The style and tone of The Hobbit are directly influenced by the novel's fictional history as the Red Book of Westmarch. In this history, Bilbo Baggins has just returned from a harrowing adventure and wants to tell the story to his fellow hobbits.
However, hobbits live very easy lives. They are not familiar with the harsh realities of adventure and war. Rather than directly tell a story about the horrors of war, he tells a children's story; it's fun and light. But, much like the subterranean caves where Gollum lurks, something much more serious lurks beneath the surface of this fun story.
The narrator is uneasy with the gruesome reality of the trolls, much as the audience of children probably is. Tolkien uses much longer asides as well, such as the long tangents in chapter one about the history of various hobbits.
''In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.''
From there, Tolkien goes on to describe in great detail what ''that means comfort'' means. The paragraph describing the comfortable reality of the hobbit hole is about four times as long as the ''nasty, dirty, wet'' description.
These vivid, concrete descriptions allow the audience to picture the scene and put themselves in it. The example of the ''ends of worms and an oozy smell'' is particularly vivid and appeals to the kid-friendly nature of the narrative. There's something wonderfully juvenile about the fascination with halved worms and things that ooze and smell.
This gross scene, then, is contrasted with the long description of the hobbit hole: ''a comfortable tunnel,'' ''polished chairs,'' ''lots and lots of pegs for hats and coats,'' and more. The descriptions are both simple and full, which is perfect for inviting a young audience to fully invest in the story and picture themselves in Middle Earth.
This lighthearted tone (the mood of a text) is created by a literary style (a description on how the author uses language) that relies on narrator asides (bits of text directed specifically to the reader) to the audience and vivid, yet simple, imagery (use of vivid descriptions to paint a picture of the tale in one's mind.

After the battle, Bilbo and Gandalf return to Hobbiton, where Bilbo continues to live. He is no longer accepted by respectablehobbit society, but he does not care. Bilbo now prefers to talkto elves and wizards, and he is deeply content to be back amongthe familiar comforts of home after his grand and harrowing adventures.
